Think about it. Obama is from Hawaii and thought Chicago would be a good place to start his political career. This church has upwards of 7,000 members. Joining this church would have given him a good advantage among Chicago’s large black community when he was running fro state and US senator. Do i think he believe that he believes that crap that his priest was saying? No. But was it politically convenient for him to stay at the church despite what his pastor was saying because he did not want to lose the political support of his congregation? yes. Thoughts on this?
I absolutely do. In fact I read somewhere that people kept asking him as a community organizer what church he belonged to and he kept skirting the issue and then he was told he would have no credibility with the black community unless he joined one.

I see your point. I never thought of it that way. But at this point is it helping him or hurting him to stay a member there?

Obama became a member of his church to become known as a black man and to get in with the blacks, I guess he does not like his white part, as he has done everything he can to be known as a black and I know it has helped him politically with the blacks. If he was up there saying he was white, they would not be voting for him in droves as they are now, most never even voted before.

I believe that is probably true.

Right, and he was trying to "authenticate" his "black identity," by joining an avowedly Afrocentric, black-promoting, black-uber-allus "Christian" Church. Listen to Cone’s remarks and you’ll see why Wright is a rabid lunatic. These people are seriously deranged. It’s a social paranoid psychosis.

He picked Chicago because he wanted to find someplace with some racial tensions to act out. Hawaii is so culturally diverse and laid back, whites are the persecuted race there, they have "Kill Haole Day".
I think it was part of his wife’s pushing, his political expediency, and ALSO he wrote in "Dreams of my Father" that he ALWAYS selected radicals to hang out with and selected his cohorts VERY CAREFULLY. So he knew exactly what he was associating himself with.
He’s not who he portrays, I think I see him as a spoiled confused person, the whites always loved and adored him to he takes them for granted, trashes them as they’re expendable though useful and convenient…now his black father abandoned him, and he will spend the rest of his days proving he’s black enough, because he may believe that’s why his father rejected him. His father moved away from his mother to his Kenyan people, and Obama is rejecting the whitei part in lieu of as many black counterparts who also reject and hate whites as possible.
Wright’s friend Kambon calls for the extermination of white people, this is not trivial anti-whiteness, it’s high end radicalism he’s associated himself with.

I believe you could make that very same statement about 80% of all churchgoers. It sure isn’t for religious teaching, as almost ALL Christians act as if they NEVER read the Bible.

And I’m an Atheist!
Yours is an excellent post and you’re right about Obama’s possible motives. There’s nothing wrong with this political approach. Many politicians gravitated to the Billy Graham movement for political reasons. When the Clintons campaigned in Texas, they made a point of attending Joel Olsteen’s church, with its 30,000+ membership. It was a political move, nothing more.
I still support Obama, because I know he’s not a racist. The Clintons know it too, but they’re using racism as a tool against the man. I think those in the political arena who know Obama also know the truth, which is why they are endorsing him and turning on the Clintons.

I think he did, they have an 8000 member congregation, but boy did that backfire on him.

That might be true because a lot of small town politicians join a church when they become involved in politics.
So maybe big time politicians also see the advantage..

Obama has been a member of his church for over 20 years, obviously if the man joins a church 20 years ago it has to be part of a political scheme that is just barely playing out. of course that must be it.. it all makes sense now. come on get real. Obama was christian before this race and will continue to be after
